The inaugural season of our Relegation League is in the books.
What We Learned
This system works. The folks that didn’t play (evidenced particularly by the far right column of the Mettle Division standings below) all finished last and face possible expulsion from the league. Legacy Division saw a 9th seed race to avoid relegation come down to the final week. The league overall was competitive. No teams cracked 11 wins, and despite my best efforts, no team had less than 2 wins.
You have to like your roster weeks before the playoffs come. With 12 teams and limited waiver wire options, some of the favorites fared poorly in the playoffs. We saw 3 teams with 10-4 records finish 6th or worse in their divisions. On the flip side, we saw two teams with .500 records or worse finish in the top 3 of their divisions - one leading to a surprise promotion bid (Zach Dye & New Smyrna Beach Sharkys).
In the end, Tim Cook became our very first champion of the Relegation League, and Jimmy Bunch, Cody Morford, and Zach Dye saw promotions to our top tier.
